Premier Inn books a Prime Spot at the Olympics
Premier Inn is making sure that it gets into a leading position at the London 2012 Olympics, with the announcement that it has acquired a new site in East London, which is within a shot-put’s throw of the Olympic Stadium.
Whitbread’s budget hotel chain will be opening its ‘Olympic Hotel’ close to Stratford International Station. East London, which will host the Olympics, has been a big winner as a result of its forthcoming role on the world stage. John Burton, director of Westfield Stratford City, said that the new Premier Inn will be a “fantastic addition” to the “new metropolitan hub”. The £25m hotel will bring 90 jobs and 267 more rooms to the district and will be open in the summer of 2012. With the addition of other new openings in London, Premier Inn expects to have over 8,000 rooms in the capital by 2012. The Olympic Stadium itself will have a capacity of 80,000 during the Games. After the Games, the Stadium can be scaled back to 25,000 seats, when - according to the official website - it will be a venue for athletics and host other sporting, cultural and community events.
