Brains lines-up rugby stars for new fundraising beer
A ‘Captains Climb’ team of 15 former Welsh rugby stars are putting themselves through a demanding test in the cause of raising money for a lung research charity called Stepping Stones. The rugby stars will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in September 2010.
The feat will tie in with Brains bringing out a new beer towards the end of this year. The beer’s characteristics will be chosen by the Captains Climb team. A percentage from its sales will go towards the Stepping Stones charity, which has been set up by Welsh rugby photographer Huw Evans, whose wife Sue was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Brains has a long standing association with the Welsh national side. It recently announced a one-year extension to its sponsorship of the national jersey. The brewer and pub owner proudly boasts to fans that there have been two Welsh grand slam victories in the ‘Brains’ Years’. The Captains Climb team includes Eddie Butler, Rob Jones, Ieuan Evans, Scott Gibbs, Rob Howley and Gareth Thomas. Brains specialises in smooth beers including Gold, SA, Dark and a range of others, such as the Rev James. Its pub estate is concentrated across across Wales, the West Country and the Midlands.
