Arkell’s builds on its Czech connections with a new Pilsner
Arkell’s brewery has released a new Pilsner. The new drink has been created by Arkell’s Head Brewer Don Bracher, who made sure that he fully familiarised himself with the brewing process before creating Arkell’s Pilsner.
Mr Bracher says that the Czech equipment suppliers gave him a wide-ranging education about Pilsner. Back home in Wiltshire, he then used bottling equipment, fermenters, conditioning equipment and a kegging unit from Czech manufacturers Cheop. Arkell’s 3.8% ABV Pilsner uses Saaz Hops from the Czech Republic and Styrian Goldings hops from Slovenia. The brewing process involves three weeks of fermentation, cooling and cold conditioning. Arkell’s Pilsner is available on draught from Arkell’s pubs and will come out as a bottled product later in the year. It was launched at Arkell’s brewery with the help of Miss Swindon, Sherie Smith. Beer was brewed in Pilsen for centuries and is closely associated with the very foundation of the city. Pilsner was first brewed in Pilsen in 1842. Meanwhile, John Arkell founded his brewery in 1843. John Arkell was born in South Gloucestershire 1802 and returned from a youthful emigration to Canada to come came back home to marry his fiancée. Arkell's other brews include 2B, 3B, Kingsdown Ale, Moonlight, Bee’s Organic Ale and others.
