Martin Curren, Chairman
Martin was one of the original founders of the business in 1992. He previously worked in a number of different industries including ten years with Nielsen where he ended up as Managing Director of the StatsMR office in Birmingham. This is where Martin gained insight into the unique market place that is the GB on trade. Now working in a more consultative role, Martin continues to contribute a wealth of experience and knowledge to CGA.
Jon Collins, Chief Executive Officer
Jon joined CGA Strategy in 2005 from his position as Chief Executive of The Bar Entertainment & Dance Association (BEDA). Jon joined CGA as part of a major re-invention of the business to build market leading consultancy services on to the pre-existing and high quality data feeds. Jon's fifteen years of involvement in the industry have given him a firm knowledge of both the retail and supply areas with a particular expertise in interpreting and forecasting the political environment. He has been heavily involved in the formation of legislation around licensing reform, the smoking ban, door supervisors and has been on the advisory boards for nearly all of the proposed on trade regulation for the last decade. Jon drives CGA’s commitment to delivering the highest levels of added value to our clients through the bringing together of best in class data with a true understanding of both internal market dynamics and external commercial, regulatory and societal factors. Now serving as Chairman of the Institute of Licensing and on the board of Purple Flag, Jon is passionate about creating ways in which the licensed trade, its regulators and local residents can work together to give customers a great night out and neighbours a quiet night in.
Phil Tate, Chief Operating Officer
Phil joined CGA in 2001 and, having worked at every level in the business and every role across the majority of our clients, has developed a truly expert understanding of on trade market dynamics and their impact on commercial objectives. After successfully managing the transition of Nielsen clients into the CGA on trade service, Phil went on to oversee the establishment of CGA’s office in Paris. Phil’s COO role allows him to work across the business, as comfortable discussing advanced analytical tools as he is delivering Board level strategic consultancy.
David Turner, Director of Information Services
Dave joined the CGA team after more than 25 years with one of the UK’s largest managed pub companies. During this time Dave was able to build up a unique blend of skills and experience across strategy, finance, sales, marketing, portfolio planning, IT and Data Production. Most of these roles have involved the application of statistical models to transform data into useable intelligence that can provide insight, drive action and catalyse change. Prior to joining CGA, Dave had worked with the team and our products for over 12 years making him ideally placed to reinvent the Information Services Division. Dave has led IS through a period of significant change as CGA has invested heavily to both further strengthen our core products and develop new levels of granularity and functionality to on trade data. This investment places CGA at the forefront of on trade analytics – capable of delivering work previously unavailable in the on trade.
Ashley Cairns, Director - Partnership Development
Ashley has been continuously involved in on trade specific market research and analysis since joining Bass in Burton on Trent in 1983. His career prior to CGA took him to blue chip brewers and spirits companies such as Allied Domecq and UDV where he performed various roles covering planning, marketing, research and strategy. Ashley joined CGA in 1999 as an Account Director and has been a vital part of the team that has taken CGA Strategy to its place as the premier knowledge agency within the on trade. This depth of knowledge and experience is a significant asset to CGA, bring an informed long view to contemporary issues. Ashley now heads up CGA’s Partnership Development Division, leading a team dedicated to executing CGA’s core belief in partnership working with our clients and other stakeholders.
Alex Eyre, Director - New Product Development
Alex joined CGA Strategy in 2007 bringing a wealth of industry expertise from her previous role as editor of late night entertainment industry trade magazine NIGHT,. She went on to lead the development of CGA's Spirits service, working across a range of accounts including Diageo GB, Bacardi Brown Forman Brands and Maxxium UK as Spirits Divisional Director. Alex now focuses on CGA’s new product development – overseeing the identification, prioritisation and creation of tools and services to enhance and extend the CGA offer.
Scott Elliott, Business Unit Director - Retailer Services
Scott joined CGA Strategy following an honours degree from Aston Business School, an early career with Mobil Oil and National Express Group and a number of years of international consultancy in the field of executive search and talent management. Since 2009 Scott has led many of CGA’s key client relationships, and now as Business Unit Director for Retailer Services, advises some of the country’s leading on trade retailers around best practice stocking and ranging, optimised pricing strategies, consumer profiling, location analysis and bespoke competitor benchmarking. Scott is also a member of CGA’s Senior Management Team and lead on CGA’s unique food insight capabilities.
Tom Lynch, Commercial Director
Tom joined CGA in 2009 having previously built up his knowledge and understanding of the on trade through his roles on leading B2B magazines Night and Theme and work on bar and hotel events and conferences for the UK and European market. This gave Tom a particular understanding of the challenges for retailers in the late night market which has since been rounded out through his work with CGA’s pub, hotel and restaurant clients. Tom has a broad and varied range of account responsibilities across the spirits, beer and soft drinks markets. In addition, he has developed a number of products designed to inform retailer decision making around pricing, ranging and estate planning. Tom also sits on CGA’s Senior Management Team with specific responsibility for marketing and external communications.
Rachel Perryman, Client Services Director
Rachel joined CGA as an associate in 2008, her commitment to the highest levels of client service driving a rapid rise to the role of Account Director. Rachel has played a key role in the creation of new CGA products and services while managing a varied client list of wholesalers, retailers, brewers, wine and spirit suppliers. This breadth of experience and desire to deliver for her clients ensures her teams deliver best in class, truly actionable insight. Rachel is also a member of CGA’s Senior Management Team with specific responsibility for people development
Alison Powell, Operations Director
Alison took up the role of Account Manager at CGA in 2008, becoming an Account Director in 2010. Previously, Alison’s work as a research bio-scientist for one of the UK’s largest pharmaceutical companies instilled in her the need for scrupulous data integrity and an ability to drive commercial insight from advanced statistical data analysis. Alison manages the largest account team within the business, providing a number of products and services to some of CGA’s key clients. The products and knowledge that Alison & team deliver provide retailers and suppliers with high level insight into changing consumer and retail trends, brand performance and market movements. Alison sits on CGA’s Senior Management Team with specific responsibility for product quality control, data integrity and service enhancement.
